My studio setup is a Mapex Saturn Kit. Mapex was exploring Hybrid shell constructions long before many other companies and they quickly hit on a magic shell blend with the Saturn. The Saturn is a Maple/walnut hybrid shell the Walnut adds a fast detailed attack with plenty of stick definition, the maple rounds the sound out warming it and enhancing the low end giving the kit a great punchy, yet the rich and low modern sound that is versatile for a wide array of musical styles.
Configuration:24x18, 10x8, 12x9, 14x14, 16x14 with 14x5,5 snare
Another 'gig kit' is Pearl Session DX, 1995. in Light Burlwood wrap. The original session series was made from birch and mahogany. I put coated drumheads on both sides for warm and deep sound.
